Social Work Ethics and the Law

This workshop focuses on values, ethics, and the law. It establishes the importance of ethics in guiding professional behavior. Because of its significance, I will examine the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics (revised 2021). It will allow participants to increase their knowledge of professional, legal, and ethical standards of practice, their role in competent, ethical social work practice, and times when legal and professional standards collide. This workshop will also allow participants to develop self-awareness of the interplay between personal values and professional behavior.

Participants will engage in examining ethical dilemmas and applying the proposed decision-making model.

About the Presenter

Dr. Shirley Newton-Guest is the Director and Co-founder of New Perspective Transcultural Therapeutic and Training Consultants, LLC. Before establishing this organization, she developed and provided leadership to private and non-profit comprehensive community-based mental health facilities. She served as a full-time social work professor for 25 years.
